Travel guide
Getting to Kashmir from your city
Three ways into the valley, whichever city you start from.
How to reach Kashmir from your city
AirFly into Srinagar from your nearest metro
Choose your city below; the page there carries the flight routing, the road transfer and the package list for that departure point.
- Journey
- Nonstop from Delhi; one stop from most other cities
- Best for
- Trips of 3 to 8 days
If your dates are fixed, tell us early — the nonstop seats go first in the summer and snow season.
TrainTrain to Jammu Tawi, then the valley road
Trains from your city reach Jammu Tawi, the railhead for the valley. From Jammu the road climbs through Udhampur and the Banihal tunnel into Srinagar.
- Journey
- Sleeper or express to Jammu Tawi, then a 270 km road transfer
- Best for
- Travellers who would rather not fly
We can pick you up at Jammu Tawi and break the drive at Patnitop if you want a softer first day.
RoadDrive to Kashmir from your city
A private car from your city runs north before the final climb through Udhampur and the Banihal tunnel into the valley.
- Journey
- One to four driving days each way
- Best for
- Long holidays with stops on the way
Plan at least one full driving day each way and ask us to check tunnel and Mughal Road conditions closer to departure.
Best time to visit Kashmir from your city
- March – MayBlossom and tulips
March to May suits almost every departure city: blossom early, the tulip garden through April and mild days at both ends of the journey.
- June – AugustSummer escape
June to August is the family window. Choose it if the trip is built around school holidays or an escape from the plains heat.
- September – OctoberAutumn colour
September and October bring colour, quiet roads and softer hotel rates. It is the easiest window to fit a short trip around work.
- December – FebruarySnow in Gulmarg
December to February is for snow: skiing and the gondola in Gulmarg, cold clear nights in Srinagar. Keep the itinerary compact.
FAQs
Kashmir tours by departure city: questions travellers ask
Which departure cities do you plan Kashmir tours from?
Every page linked on this index has its own plan: Delhi, Mumbai, Bangalore, Chennai, Hyderabad, Kolkata, Ahmedabad, Pune, Jaipur, Kochi, the Gulf cities and a handful of long-haul origins. If your city is not listed, tell us where you are flying from and we quote the same itineraries with the right connection.
I live in a small town without a direct flight to Srinagar. Can you still plan the trip?
Yes. Most guests drive or take a train to the nearest metro and fly from there. We quote that leg inside the same itinerary, so the connection, the transfer and the Srinagar arrival are one booking rather than three separate ones.
Do the packages change depending on which city I fly from?
The valley itinerary does not change: Srinagar, Gulmarg, Pahalgam and Sonamarg are the same for every departure point. What changes is the journey at each end and therefore the total, because the air or rail leg is quoted separately from the land package.
How long is the flight to Srinagar from the main metros?
Delhi is a little over an hour nonstop. Mumbai, Bangalore, Chennai and Kolkata usually mean one connection through Delhi, which makes it four to seven hours door to door. Gulf departures connect overnight and land in Srinagar the next morning.
Can I book a Kashmir tour from outside India?
Yes — guests fly in from Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Doha, Kuwait, London, Germany and Australia. Check the current Indian visa or e-visa rules for your passport before booking; a standard Srinagar, Gulmarg and Pahalgam itinerary needs no separate permit.
Is it cheaper to fly to Srinagar or take the train to Jammu?
The train to Jammu Tawi is usually the cheaper land option, but it costs a day each way and adds a 270 km road transfer. From the south and west, flying into Srinagar is almost always the better use of a short holiday.
Which month should I pick from my city?
March to May for blossom and tulips, June to August for the cool summer, September and October for clear light and quiet roads, and December to February for snow in Gulmarg. The season decides the packing; the route from your city stays the same all year.
How do I get a quote for my city?
Send your departure city, your dates and the number of travellers. We reply with a written itinerary, the hotel names, the connection we recommend and a fixed amount before you pay anything.
